Religion is having faith in a supernatural power that control the human fate and it has been practiced for many centuries. It is however important to note that there are different religions from Islam, Parsees, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism among others and all of them worship the same God although they have different beliefs and practices. The purpose of this essay paper will be to discuss the role and significance of the Messiah and how it differs in Judaism and Christianity. According to Telushkin, the main difference between Christianity and Judaism is the way the two religions view and interpret the works of Jesus Christ (Telushkin, 1991). It is stated in the Holy Bible that Christians believe that the coming of Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of the prophecies made in the old testament, that the Savior will come and liberate the world (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7; Micah 5:2).
This however is in contrast to the belief of Judaism, it does not believe that Jesus Christ was a Messiah but He was just a good teacher. Another area where Judaism and Christianity differ is in relation to resurrection and the second coming of Jesus, whereas Christianity believes in the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Judaism strongly denies this. After having looked at the different opinions that Christianity and Judaism have over Jesus Christ, it is important to note that Judaism teachings are based on principles and ethics of embodied in the Hebrew Bible whereas the Christian teachings are centered on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as stated in the Holy Bible.
The main role and significance of Christianity and Judaism is that they both teach people of the positive virtues of life, practices and create spiritual nourishment. This means that despite one's religion, they have the same goal; to preach good deeds of life.
