Zappos.com is an online clothing and shoes shop which is at the moment best in Nevada. The shop was found in 1999 and since then it has grown to be the largest worldwide. The company through its CEO Tony Hseih has provided lessons on leadership and management of organizations. Tony, who has taken the company through rapid growth in less than a century, uses innovation, relationship marketing and loyalty models (JRank). He has led by example and has inspired many. He asserts that leadership should not be dictatorship or tyranny but should be based on understanding other people and incorporating their ideas into the business as well.
About management challenges of globalization, which include; leading a diverse workforce, ethics , character and personality, Tony has maintained that they are global and every organization should expect them prepare on how to deal with each. Since the world is becoming one big market where technology, employees and knowledge are easily exchanged due to globalization, character, ethics and personalities become varied as the work force becomes diverse. As a result, the management of any given organization should be careful and if possible organize some training on how to accommodate this diversity (JRank).
Each of these challenges impacts the organization in one way or the other. For instance, diverse workforce may imply that new practices are continuously introduced to the company. Character, personal integrity and ethics mean that every employee has unique character, ethics and personal integrity since they come from different ethnic backgrounds (General, 2009). For instant, an employee from the US has been brought up in an environment different from one whose social background is Europe thus their character, integrity and ethics are expected to differ.
I agree with Zduma's assertion that Zappos is customer focused and is different from other companies on how it handles its customers. Being an e-commerce business, Zappos has been reaching its consumers online and delivery of goods has been made easier and timely. Other organizations should emulate the spirit of making consumers the first priority and embrace diversity in this globalization era.
